The worst time to search for talent is when you need it most

And it took me a very long time to understand it.
For years, every time a position became vacant, I would open LinkedIn, start conversations, schedule calls, and try to resolve it as quickly as possible.
Because every day without that person meant more burden on the team, slower decisions, and an operation that was starting to suffer.
The pressure kept growing, and my goal became simpler: hire fast before that vacancy affected the team even more.
But over time I understood something that completely changed the way I build teams: Searching for someone when you already need them is starting too late.
Because when there's urgency, you stop choosing and start accepting.
And there's a huge difference between finding the right person and simply filling an empty space.
The best people who have joined the team didn't arrive because we had an open position.
They arrived because months before we had a conversation, because we had met someone interesting, because we had built a relationship before knowing when the right moment could exist.
I understood that building a team is not about filling empty spaces.
It's about finding people who share the vision you're building.
And these are the tips that have helped me the most:
• Build a permanent talent network.
• Invest time in getting to know exceptional people.
• Never stop looking for people who can take your team to the next level.
Because in the end, great teams are not built with the first available person.
They are built with people who share your vision.
And that requires starting before you have an urgent need.
